Video statement on the occasion <\/strong>of 2 August 2024, Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma
<\/strong><\/p>

\u00dcber 4.200 Menschenleben wurden am 2. August 1944 auf bestialische Art und Weise im Vernichtungslager Auschwitz-Birkenau ausgel\u00f6scht.<\/p>

\u00dcber 4.200 S\u00f6hne, T\u00f6chter, Br\u00fcder, Schwestern, M\u00fctter, V\u00e4ter, Gro\u00dfeltern, Freundinnen und Freunde. Jedes Leben mit einer eigenen Geschichte.<\/p>

Der Mord an diesen \u00fcber 4.200 Menschen und den insgesamt sch\u00e4tzungsweise 500.000 Opfern der Sinti und Roma, macht uns auch 80 Jahre sp\u00e4ter noch fassungslos.<\/p>

Es hat lange \u2013 zu lange \u2013 gedauert, bis der V\u00f6lkermord an den Sinti und Roma anerkannt wurde und der heutige Gedenktag seinen festen Platz im Kalender bekommen hat.<\/p>

Erst im Jahr 2015 hat das Europ\u00e4ische Parlament den 2. August zum \u201eEurop\u00e4ischen Holocaust-Gedenktag f\u00fcr Sinti und Roma\u201c erkl\u00e4rt.<\/p>

Seitdem ist dieser Tag der Erinnerung an das Menschheitsverbrechen an den Sinti und Roma gewidmet.<\/p>

Wir erinnern uns mit Wut und Scham zur\u00fcck an die T\u00e4ter, die diese unbegreiflichen Verbrechen begangen haben.<\/p>

Aber vor allem erinnern wir uns in tiefer Trauer und Demut zur\u00fcck an deren Opfer.<\/p>

Dabei m\u00fcssen wir uns bewusst machen: Erinnerung ist mehr als das blo\u00dfe Nicht-Vergessen.<\/p>

Erinnerung mahnt uns, Haltung zu zeigen. Wenn Sprache sich ver\u00e4ndert, wenn Tabus gebrochen werden und wenn Unsagbares wieder sagbar gemacht werden soll, m\u00fcssen wir laut widersprechen. Denn Schweigen ist auch eine Aussage.<\/p>

Erinnerung verpflichtet uns, zu lernen und zu lehren. Erinnerungsorte erz\u00e4hlen die Geschichten der Opfer und sind so Lernorte f\u00fcr k\u00fcnftige Generationen. Denn je weniger Holocaust-\u00dcberlebende bleiben, die uns ihre Geschichte berichten k\u00f6nnen, desto schwieriger wird die Ann\u00e4herung an die unglaublichen Verbrechen dieser Zeit.<\/p>

Und Erinnerung ist auch der Auftrag, wachsam zu sein und zu verhindern, dass es wieder geschieht. In Zeiten wieder aufkeimenden Antiziganismus, Antisemitismus, Rassismus, Hass und Hetze ist das bedeutender denn je.<\/p>

Wir stellen uns diesem Auftrag, wir handeln.<\/p>

Es freut uns deshalb sehr, dass im Juni eine St\u00e4ndige Bund-L\u00e4nder-Kommission gegen Antiziganismus und f\u00fcr das Leben der Sinti und Roma eingerichtet wurde. Auch Bayern leistet dazu seinen Beitrag.<\/p>

Ganz eigene, konkrete bayerische Schwerpunkte setzen wir schon seit Jahren mit unserem Gesamtkonzept Erinnerungskultur. Zeichen unserer besonderen Wertsch\u00e4tzung ist dar\u00fcber hinaus unser Vertrag mit dem bayerischen Landesverband des Verbands Deutscher Sinti und Roma.<\/p>

Seien Sie aber auch versichert: In Bayern sind wir nicht nur wachsam, sondern auch wehrhaft. Rassistische Straftaten werden bei uns mit aller Konsequenz strafrechtlich verfolgt.<\/p>

Wir sind davon \u00fcberzeugt: Mit Gedenken und Erinnern wird man nie fertig. Die Erinnerung begleitet uns bis ans Ende unserer Zeit.
