RomaSintiGenocide.eu – a European educational Website

The Fate of European Roma and Sinti during the Holocaust

romasintigenocide.eu is the first comprehensive online teaching resource in Europe which focuses exclusively on the genocide of the Roma and Sinti. The website provides extensive background information, selected biographies of victims of persecution, and 70 worksheets on camps and special aspects of the genocide of the Roma. The worksheets can be used directly in the classroom and include assignments for students. A teacher handbook gives advice on how to teach with the material.

The content is structured chronologically into five chapters:

A) Roma and Sinti Before the War
B) Discrimination and Persecution
C) Under Nazi Rule
D)  The Genocide
E) The Survivors

The worksheets display historic images and documents and makes the stories of victims and survivors accessible to students. Maps are showing the location of the different concentration camps and extermination sites.

The website is available in English, French, German, Croatian, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Rumanian, Polish and in two Roma languages: Since 2016 in Kelderash, a language spoken by the Kelderash Romani, mainly in Romania, and since 2018 in Romungro. There is also a glossary of terms, and background readings in each language are available. In August 2020 the Swedish version of the Website will be made available.

The project is carried out in cooperation between _erinnern.at_, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, and Memorial de la Shoah.
